Our Program

A warm, play-based, part-time preschool for children 22 months through 4 years of age.

About Messiah CEP

Messiah Child Enrichment Preschool is a religiously exempt, part-time preschool serving children 22 months through 4 years of age. Each classroom has one lead teacher and one assistant teacher, and the staff-to-child ratio meets or exceeds Virginia licensing requirements.

All teachers and assistants are certified in CPR and First Aid. CEP is dedicated to providing a loving, safe, Christian preschool environment.

Preschool day: 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Before Care and After Care are available for registered families.

A day at CEP includes

  • Individual free play and learning centers
  • Art, sensory table activities, dramatic play, stories, and songs
  • Circle time, poems, finger plays, cooking, and science
  • Indoor and outdoor gross motor play
  • Weekly music and weekly hands-on science labs
  • Monthly Chapel Time with Messiah UMC staff

Program philosophy

CEP believes children learn best about themselves and their environment in an atmosphere where a variety of experiences exist and achievement pressures are limited.

Children are encouraged to

  • Develop a positive self-image
  • Learn how to self-regulate and handle emotions appropriately
  • Develop independence and personal responsibility
  • Learn to trust and care about those around them

Program goals include

  • Practice large and fine motor skills
  • Foster listening, speaking, and language development
  • Experience the love and teaching of God through Christian principles and dedicated staff

Director

Katie Polk has been with CEP since her children started the program in 2002. She volunteered as a CEP Board member and Chapel Time leader, joined the staff in 2008, taught in the 2s and 3s classes, and now serves as Director.

Ms. Katie is a Virginia Tech graduate with a degree in Early Childhood Education and enjoys interacting with families and teaching science each week.
